Make Thanksgiving Safe Around Your Home

As you prepare for Thanksgiving, you need to make sure that visitors can enjoy themselves. This means there should be enough food, there should be places for everyone to relax after the big meal, either indoors or outdoors, and you should look around your home to make sure everything is in tip-top condition to prevent older people and young children, and everyone in between, since the fall. When you look at something every day, you soon forget that it is out of place or needs repair; it just blends in with the surroundings, but your guests may notice it or they may harm someone.

One of the things that people should do to prepare their home for the guests is to order, both inside and outside. That loose stone you fixed last month? Now would be a good time to finally go down the stairs. Visiting children can give in to temptation and end up falling off the ladder or ceiling. Then get ready for toddlers and babies by installing corner protectors and outlet covers.

If older people come, look for rugs that pile up easily and can cause an older person to trip. Also, look around you and replace the bulbs that have not already done so. If there are things hindering travel modes, move them. The footrest that your own family is used to being in one place may not be something that Grandma is used to.

Finally, with a larger group of people visiting, if you haven't already, put new batteries in all the fire extinguishers. You may think that fires will only start in the kitchen or where the fireplace is, but you are wrong. Help protect your guests and everyone will have a great time eating until they are full and watching soccer. If you need help repairing an appliance before your guests come, call Appliance Repair Services and that will be an important thing to check off your list.
